Artist Statement

My paintings celebrate the ordinary and the commonplace; an abandoned house, the detritus of nature and the elements of everyday life. They create an appreciation of texture and a delight in color. They are memories made visible.

Here is Kate Shafer's present for her Dad. This is a rain cloud over stormy water with a sunset reflecting on the clouds above and on the rain that falls from the cloud. I think it is grand and so expressive.

This lively watercolor is by Alex Shafer, a present for his Dad for Father's Day. It is called "Redfish Lake" with a sandy beach and forest is the background. The fish are accidental but that's the joy of painting, isn't it?

What super artists you've got there, Kitty! Wonderful clouds and fish. Tell Alex that we have a green boat called the "Red Herring", because the bottom is red, so that is what the herring see (my Alex, at age 12, came up with that name and reasoning).
